NO NEW YEAR EVE’S PELICAN DROP

It appears unlikely the Pelican Drop in downtown Pensacola will take place this year. When the Downtown Improvement Board decided not to do the Pelican Drop last year Buck Mitchell, marketing director for Seville Quarter, and others, took over the event, after the raising almost $100,000 and working hard for two hard months to pull off the event which attracts an estimated 50,000 people to downtown Pensacola.  However, no other organization or person has come forward to make the Pelican Drop happen this year. Mitchell says he doesn’t have the time or the resources to do it again, but said New Year’s Eve celebrations will continue with or without the pelican.
