WEEKEND BEACH TRAFFIC COUNT

According to official traffic counts from Escambia County, nearly 1,700 vehicles more vehicle passed through the toll booths at the foot of the Sikes Bridge for the Blue Angels Air Show than did last year. 19,629 vehicles passed through the main beach toll booths Friday and 19,862 passed through Saturday. The main beach parking lot at Casino Beach was closed at 5:15 a.m., 35 minutes earlier than in 2017. Escambia County emergency responders answered 18 calls Friday and 60 calls Saturday most of which were heat-related. Dave Greenwood, Pensacola Beach Safety Supervisor, also said his 54 lifeguards responded to numerous heat-related issues. One swimmer sustained a spinal cord injury after diving into shallow water at Quietwater Beach and was transported to a nearby hospital.
