NEW BAY BRIDGE CONCRETE CRACKING

The Pensacola News Journal is reporting construction on the new Pensacola Bay Bridge project has been stopped twice over the last several months because cracks were found in the concrete bridge decking. The Florida Department of Transportation said work was halted from April 5th to the 16th and from June 26th to 27th. Senator Doug Broxson said cracking in concrete is not unusual in a large-scale construction project. He said he has learned that the cracks were caused by the concrete curing incorrectly. FDOT has come under fire since the Miami bridge collapse after reports revealed cracks were found in that bridge in late February. The bridge project over Pensacola Bay is scheduled to be completed by 2020.
