DEATH PENALTY UPHELD

Circuit Court Judge David Rimmer has upheld the death sentence of a double-murderer. Jonathan Lawrence was sentenced to die for the 1998 murders of two people and the attempted murder of a third in Santa Rosa County. A rehearing of the penalty phase of his trial was required by the Florida Supreme Court, which ruled jurors must decide unanimously to impose the death penalty. The jury that convicted Lawrence recommended he die by an 11-1 vote. Lawrence sent a handwritten note to Judge Rimmer saying he was guilty of all charges and deserved the death sentence and he also waived his right to have a jury hear the re-sentencing proceeding, Judge Rimmer upheld Lawrence’s death sentence.
