RED TIDE IN THE PANHANDLE

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission says red tide has been detected in low quantities off Bay County and Panama City Beach after dozens of dead fish began washing ashore Sunday afternoon near Saint Andrews State Park. Red tide was also detected in very low concentrations in Walton County. Red tide has impacted 125 miles of coastline along the Gulf Coast in South Florida, with large fish kills over the weekend reported in Tampa Bay and high concentrations of the organism stretching from Pinellas County to Lee County. Tropical Storm Gordon may have helped bring red tide to our area from South Florida. It is the area’s first red tide since 2015.
