PLANTS RECOVERING AFTER MICHAEL

A month after Hurricane Michael devastated the Florida Panhandle trees are starting to put out new sprouts and some plants, such as azaleas and Japanese magnolias, have started to flower out of season. Julie McConnell, a horticultural agent with the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences in Bay County. Said the science of what happens to plants after major storms is unclear, but the stress of the storm’s winds seems to cause unusual things to happen. McConnell said it will be about a year before it becomes clear how the hurricane affected standing trees and shrubs.
