MID-BAY BRIDGE REOPENS

The Mid-Bay Bridge has partially reopened after being closed for a week after a routine inspection revealed problems with the post-tensioning steel cables installed along the length of the span. FDOT will only allow two-axle cars and trucks and some emergency response vehicles on the bridge. Van Fuller, executive director of the Mid-Bay Bridge Authority, could not say how long it might be before FDOT has the Bridge fully repaired as the agency is still working out those details with contractors. Lost toll collections are estimated at $275,00. Fuller said it was fortunate that January was a light traffic month.
