The Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Department says they have arrested a 51-year-old man for the murder of his mother-in-law. Robert Lucas was apprehended around 3:30 yesterday afternoon after a pursuit that ended on Bay Street in Gulf Breeze. He was wanted in the death of 57-year-old Carrie Brewer, who was reported missing Tuesday. Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson said they were notified by family members of their concerns for the safety of Ms. Brewer so they obtained a search warrant for her Fulva Street home and found Brewer’s body in the garage. She is believed to have died from blunt force trauma. Lucas was taken into custody after being forced off the road and was transported to the hospital to be treated for a head injury. He is expected to face several charges, including first-degree premeditated murder.
