CITY BOTTLE CLUB ORDINANCE

At last night’s city council meeting, members approved the first reading of an ordinance that will reduce business hours in the city from 5 a.m. to 3 a.m. The vote was 4 to 1, with Councilwoman Sherri Myers voting against. The ordinance would mainly affect the downtown bottle club, Bedlam, at Intendencia and Jefferson Streets, which stays open until 5am and has been the site of numerous disturbance calls. Councilwoman Myers said the city shouldn’t target a particular business. Pensacola Police Chief Tommi Lyter said he thinks the ordinance will reduce the use of police manpower and reduce and deter crime in that area. The ordinance has to be approved in a second reading at the next city council meeting before it takes effect.
