SAILBOAT RUNS AGROUND ON OKALOOSA ISLAND

A 55-year-old man, sailing from St. Petersburg, was knocked out of his sailboat during a storm late Saturday night about two miles outside of the Destin East Pass. Luckily, he was tethered to the boat when the turbulent water flung him out. Rick Grossi said he clung to the side of the sailboat, but was not able to climb back aboard until it ran aground on Okaloosa Island just east of Beasley Park on the Eglin reservation.  He was not injured and efforts are underway to refloat the boat, which did not appear to suffer serious damage.
