BEACH SIGN

Work on the replacement of the iconic, sailfish-shaped Pensacola Beach welcome sign in Gulf Breeze, won’t start until after Labor Day weekend. Escambia County Commissioner Robert Bender said it was decided to wait until after the end of the summer season. The $263,000 project is expected to take at least three weeks. The county last replaced the sign after Hurricane Ivan in 2004. The new sign will feature LED technology, which won’t change the overall look of the sign. Commissioner Bender said an auction for the old sign will be held in the Pensacola area.
