TEXTING AND DRIVING LAW

Florida’s latest texting and driving law, signed by Governor Ron DeSantis, makes the act a primary offense. Prior to its passage officers had to pull a driver over for another violation first before issuing a ticket for texting. Now just texting is a violation. The new law also bans the use of any handheld wireless communication devices in school and construction zones for talking or texting. It will go into effect July 1st, but officers will issue warnings until the New Year. First time offenders will face a $30 fine, plus court fees.
