Florida’s latest texting and driving law, signed by Governor Ron DeSantis, makes the act a primary offense. Prior to its passage officers had to pull a driver over for another violation first before issuing a ticket for texting. Now just texting is a violation. The new law also bans the use of any handheld wireless communication devices in school and construction zones for talking or texting. It will go into effect July 1^st, but officers will issue warnings until the New Year. First time offenders will face a $30 fine, plus court fees.
