CENTURY FINANCIAL WOES

An independent financial consultant, retained by the Florida League of Cities, says the Town of Century is “teetering on a financial cliff, and quick decisive action is needed to rescue it”. His report recommended new utility taxes to increase revenue; a charter review; an additional city administrator; contracting out the management of the town’s water and gas systems or selling them; and asking for budgeting help from other local governments. He said that immediate action is needed as Century is very close to falling under the State’s Financial Emergency Statute which can limit or take away some of the decision-making authority from the Town’s elected officials and give it to an appointed oversight board.
