SANTA ROSA COUNTY RECYCLING

Santa Rosa County may end recycling in the county. That would mean approximately 8,000 tons of recycling waste generated by residents annually would go to landfills. County Engineer Roger Blaylock told County Commissioners that staff have been unable to negotiate a new processing contract with the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority, which previously processed county recyclables but terminated its contract in April due to high costs and low market value. Commissioners will likely vote at their Thursday morning meeting whether to suspend the recycling program in Santa Rosa County altogether.
