ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER OWL DIES

A beloved animal ambassador at the Roy Hyatt Environmental Center in Cantonment had passed away. John, an Eastern screech owl, had lived at the center for 13 years, and was often the star of the show at educational programs. He was hit by a car 13 years ago and blinded in one eye, which made it impossible for him to be released into the wild. He died peacefully and was thought to be about 16-years-old. The Roy Hyatt Environmental Center is operated by the Escambia County School District.
