BALDWIN COUNTY SHOOTOUT FOLLOW-UP

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department says the autopsy of the man who died after a shootout with Gulf Shores Police succumbed from injuries received after falling or jumping from the 8th floor of a condominium. On Monday police attempted to make a traffic stop on Russell Mallette for speeding and suspected DUI, but he refused to stop. He jumped from his car and an officer pursued him into the Ocean House Condominium where the two struggled and Mallette got the officer’s gun. There was an exchange of gunfire and Mallette was hit twice, but neither wound was disabling. Mallette his way up to the 8th or 9th floor and went over the balcony, but it is not known if he jumped, or fell.
