EAST BAY ALGAE BLOOM

A possible green algae bloom in East Bay, discovered earlier this week, is being monitored by environmental officials. Escambia County’s Marine Resources Director collected samples to be sent to St. Petersburg for testing to confirm the type of algae. Taylor Kirschenfeld, Escambia County senior scientist and department director, said there was no indication of fish kills or any other negative effects on marine life and the algae is not the same as blue-green algae, which can be extremely toxic to dogs and swimmers.
