ELECTRIC SCOOTERS ON PENSACOLA BEACH

The Santa Rosa Island Authority is considering an ordinance to restrict rentals of electronic scooters on Pensacola Beach. Under the proposed ordinance, scooters would be banned from beach’s commercial corridor and limited to side roads. Blue Duck scooters of San Antonio will soon be operating a scooter rental business in downtown in Pensacola, but said the company isn’t interested in expanding to the beach because the salt air would be too corrosive for the scooter batteries. Under the ordinance, e-scooters would only be allowed on roads with a speed limited of 25 miles-per-hour or less and would not be allowed on the sidewalks of major roadways including Via De Luna, Pensacola Beach Boulevard or Fort Pickens Road.
