RANSOMWARE ATTACK AGAINST CITY OF PENSACOLA

Officials with the City of Pensacola say the ongoing cyberattack against the city is a ransomware attack, but have not released details about any potential demands for money. Other Florida cities have paid out hundreds of thousands of dollars to recover encrypted data in similar attacks. City spokesperson Kaycee Lagarde said some limited email service has been restored to city employees but much of the city’s computer systems remain disconnected to prevent the spread of the attack. The cyberattack began early Saturday, less than 24 hours after the shooting at NAS Pensacola, but the FBI says it has not identified a connection between the cyberattack and the shooting. Police, fire and emergency 911 lines have not been affected by the attack.
