WEST CERVANTES STREET SAFETY

The Florida Department of Transportation has made changes to the project that will make safety improvements to West Cervantes Street. FDOT officials say the pedestrian barrier that was to run 8,800 feet of the 2.25-mile project has been reduced by 68% to 2,800 feet. Other changes include adding 18 more crosswalks, and 13 more openings to the surrounding street grid in the median in the 32-block area. FDOT spokesman Ian Satter said plans for the West Cervantes Street improvements are 90% complete, and the project is expected to begin in January 2021.
