(NEW YORK) -- Americans are spending less on prescription drugs, due in part to the switch away from name brands to less-expensive generic drugs.

But there could be a downside to taking these generic pills. According to this report by ABC's World News with Diane Sawyer, under current law, generic drug manufacturers are less responsible for adverse reactions than brand-name manufacturers.
