Residents in the Wedgewood community of Escambia County are once again facing the possibility of a new dump site moving into their neighborhood. County Commissioners are set to vote today on approving a recycling permit for a vegetative yard trash recycling facility on 70 acres off Longleaf Drive. The company seeking the permit is Eager Beaver LLC, but the permit would only allow the use of nine acres of land. Dr. Gloria Horning, a community activist, said the proposed recycling facility is not as bad as some of the other pits in the area, but is still a concern. Wedgewood residents are mobilizing in an effort to stop the permit from being issued. The commissioners meet today with a public hearing set for 5:30 p.m.
