RADIO COLLARS ON NWF BLACK BEARS 9-30-16

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says radio tracking collars have been placed on 16 female black bears in northwest Florida. FWC Executive Director Nick Wiley said the collars will record their location using satellite telemetry. After a time, the collars will drop from the bear. So far in the study, researchers have learned that the bears wearing collars are starting to become more active as they get ready for winter by putting on fat. Residents may notice more bears near residential and commercial areas and should secure garbage cans and never provide food sources so as to reduce human-bear conflicts.
