The Alabama Department of Corrections is investigating an attack on a corrections lieutenant yesterday the William C. Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore. It happened about 1 p.m. when the lieutenant was attempting to control the inmate who was making threatening remarks to other corrections officers. The inmate attacked the lieutenant with a makeshift weapon inflicting a minor cut on his face. The inmate – 27-year-old Robert Washington – is serving a 20-year sentence on a 2010 robbery conviction from Montgomery County. This is the second attack on a corrections official at the prison since September. Corrections Officer Kenneth Bettis was stabbed on Sept. 1. and later died of his injuries. The prison is currently locked down while the Alabama Department of Corrections investigates the assault.
