STATE DRONE PROGRAM 10-27-16

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles wants to set up a pilot program to use unmanned aerial drones to help manage traffic crashes. Executive Director Terry Rhodes said the program would last for a year to 18 months, but would not be used for traffic enforcement. The program would require legislative approval since a 2013 state law prohibits the use of unmanned aerial vehicles by law enforcement agencies for surveillance and evidence gathering unless a judge issues a warrant, there is a high risk of terrorist attack or officials fear someone is in imminent danger.
