BEACH TOLL PROPOSAL 11-14-16

Many citizens are objecting to the idea of doing away with cash tolls on the Bob Sikes Bridge to Pensacola Beach. The plan is to automate the toll-collecting process. Under the proposed change the cost of the toll would still be a dollar, but there would be a $2.50 fee for each month you use the automated system which will scan license plates. A bill would be sent to owner of the tag. Drivers will also have the option to get a prepaid Sun Pass. Commissioner Grover Robinson says the goal is to reduce traffic time for drivers going to the beach and to reduce the traffic that builds on Highway 98 in Gulf Breeze during the tourist season. A petition has been started to protest the proposed change and more than 1,800 people have signed as of Monday. A county spokes- person says no matter how many people sign the signature, it wouldn’t force the county to legally do anything about the issue.
