Escambia County commissioners have changed their minds about a plan to stop accepting cash at the Bob Sikes Bridge toll plaza on Pensacola Beach by February. The commissioners voted unanimously Thursday to rescind a prior decision to move to an automated, collection system that would do away with all cash payments. The goal of the new system was to speed traffic flow through the toll plaza and reduce traffic congestion on the beach as well as in Gulf Breeze. Commissioners will leave the current toll system in place until the board and the public can decide on the best way to move forward.
