A volunteer firefighter, who also works as a corrections officer at the county jail, was bitten in the face early Saturday morning as he stopped to assist at a traffic accident. Kurtis Clark, arrived at the scene at Mobile Highway and Fairfield Drive and found a man – later identified as 25-year old David Lawrence – assaulting a woman. When Clark attempted to intervene, he was bitten in the face. Lawrence was booked into the Escambia County Jail on a bond of $59,500 on charges of battery on an officer, resisting an officer, aggravated battery on a firefighter and DUI. Clark was treated for minor injuries.
