Pensacola Police say someone shot at one of their officers late Friday night in the area of Torres Avenue and Tunis Street off 9th Avenue, then ran from the scene. Officer Matthew Mercado was not injured in the incident which occurred around 10:30pm. During a Violent Crime Suppression Operation, officers responded to Highland Drive on a report of an armed disturbance. Officer Mercado found the suspect on Sixth Avenue near Tunis Street who then fired one shot and fled the area on foot. The suspect is described as a black male, thin build and wearing dark pants and a dark jacket with a hood. Anyone with information on the attempted shooting of the police officer is asked to contact the Pensacola Police Department or call Crime Stopper at 433-STOP.
