The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles says some drivers have been victimized by a scam by a company identifying itself as the Department of Motor Vehicles and demanding payment for fraudulent traffic citations. The company sends emails to people requesting payment of a citation within a certain time frame. The email says if payment isn’t received a daily late fee payment will be added. The DMV says they do not require citation payment via email and if a driver receives such a notice they should contact the local Clerk of Court or call the DMV immediately.
