COUGH MEDICINE LAW 1-3-16

A new Florida law took effect Sunday that prohibits anyone under 18 from buying certain over-the-counter cough medicines containing  synthetically produced dextro-methorphan. The law also requires identification from those presumed to be under 25. Dextro-methorphan is found in many cough medicines, including Robitussin, Alka-Seltzer Plus, Tylenol Cough & Cold and Vicks NyQuil. Side effects can include include loss of coordination, slurred speech, sweating, hypertension and involuntary spasmodic movement of the eyes. The American Association of Poison Control Centers reported six deaths in 2014 related to dextromethorphan use.
