Escambia County commissioner Lumon May wants to increase supervision at area parks and playgrounds. At the joint meeting between Escambia County and Pensacola city officials yesterday he proposed hiring what he calls “park rangers” or “park ambassadors.” Commissioner May said they would not be security guards or law enforcement officers, but would be paid staff and travel from park to park, to help prevent problems. If they did see a problem, they would call law enforcement. No action on the matter was taken, but May said it’s an issue he hopes city and county leaders can address together.
