EGLIN WEAPONS TESTING 2-10-17

Military aircraft from as far away as Canada will be participating in weapons trials at Eglin Air Force Base this week. There will also be some Navy helicopters testing weapons on Choctawhatchee Bay. Most of the munitions are cement-filled inert bombs so no explosions will be heard. Lieutenant Colonel Sean Neitzke, commanding officer of the 86th Fighter Weapons Squadron, said the tests allow pilots to train with weapons systems they’ve never used before and will help the Air Force save money and improve lethality. More than 30 boats, part of the local charter fleet, will be on Choctawhatchee Bay serving as simulated targets. Tests will be conducted on Eglin Air Forces Base’s range. Over the Gulf south of Destin and on land east of Navarre, north of Hurlburt Field.
