BEACH TOWN HALL MEETING 2-24-17

A special Town Hall Meeting on Pensacola Beach was held by Escambia County commissioners last night in Commission Chambers in downtown Pensacola. One of the biggest issues for residents is on-going traffic problems and Doug Underhill, chair of the county commission, supports installing roundabouts to speed up traffic flow. While many residents liked the idea, others were concerned they wouldn’t address issues with pedestrians and bicyclists. The future of the toll plaza on the Bob Sikes Bridge was also discussed. Some want the one-dollar toll reduced or eliminated altogether. Commissioners will also look at the future of an ordinance that bans the use of alcohol on the boardwalk. That ordinance sunsets in June and Commissioner Underhill said the commission will look at making it a permanent ban next month.
