The Navarre Pass opened over 50 years ago in Santa Rosa County, close to the Okaloosa County line. But it only stayed open for 2 months when a 1965 hurricane filled the pass with sand. Now a half-century later, Congressman Matt Gaetz would like to see the pass reopened, which he says would be a financial shot to the arm for Santa Rosa County. However, there are title and land issues that would have to be resolved and Gaetz said he’s working on a bill to fix the issue and open the door for re-dredging the pass.
