STAND YOUR GROUND SENATE BILL 3-14-17

Florida senators could vote as soon as tomorrow to approve a bill that would change the burden of proof in “stand your ground” self-defense cases. A ruling from a Florida Supreme Court in 2015 said defendants have the burden of proof to show they should be shielded from prosecution under the “stand your ground” law. The bill would shift that burden of proof from defendants to prosecutors. A House version is pending in the House Judiciary Committee.
