EX-FIRE CHIEF LAWSUIT 3-22-17

Attorneys for the City of Pensacola say a lawsuit filed by former Pensacola deputy fire chief Joseph Glover is a frivolous action in bad faith. Former Interim Fire Chief Matthew Schmitt and Glover were terminated from the Pensacola Fire Department last year. They have filed separate civil lawsuits alleging they were fired in retaliation for filing discrimination complaints to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Attorneys representing the city and the mayor denied all of Glover’s allegations in a court filing Tuesday arguing his termination was legitimate and non-retaliatory because the plaintiff violated the employment policies of the city of Pensacola. Attorneys offered a similar response to Schmitt’s lawsuit two weeks ago. Both Schmitt and Glover are seeking reinstatement, back pay, attorney fees and damages. The city has asked for the case to be dismissed and is seeking reimbursement for attorneys’ fees.
