The city of Pensacola and Escambia County have agreed on the distribution of Local Option Gas Tax money. In past years, the city of Pensacola has received18 percent of the Gas Tax revenue, but last year the county proposed cutting the city’s share to about 7 percent, a decrease of nearly $700,000. annually. The city appealed the proposed distribution to the governor’s office, but now a tentative settlement has been reached. The proposed distribution rate is 84.04 percent for the county, 15.15 percent for the city and 0.81 percent for the town of Century. Revenue from the six-cent tax on gasoline sales is used to fund transportation projects like road and bridge maintenance and repairs. County commissioners will need to hold a public meeting to approve the terms.
