NEW BEACH BOARDWALKS 4-14-17

The Santa Rosa Island Authority is constructing new dune walkovers on Pensacola Beach that will be accessible for people with disabilities. The contract for the project is 1.2 million dollars for 11 walkovers, just over $100,000 per walkover. The Island Authority chose the lowest bidder, which was J. Miller Construction. There have been some objections to the cost, but the company said materials alone cost $50,000 to $60,000 per walkover. They also had to adhere to disability guidelines and environmental regulations and that drove up the cost. The entire project will be completed by the end of June.
