GOVERNOR IN TOWN 5-5-17

Florida Governor Rick Scott was in town yesterday to gain support for his efforts to have the Legislature continue funding the state’s tourism and economic development agencies. Speaking at the Sanders Beach-Corrine Jones Resource Center, the Governor said both Visit Florida and Enterprise Florida have had a favorable impact on the state and that Enterprise Florida played a large role in the expansion of Navy Federal Credit Union’s operation in Beulah in West Escambia County. Navy Federal plans to add 5,000 jobs at its operation in Escambia County by 2016. The governor has requested $100 million for both Enterprise Florida and Visit Florida, but the Legislature’s proposed 83-billion dollar budget would cut funding for both programs. House Speaker Richard Corcoran has called state incentives as corporate welfare.
