A 43-year-old Pensacola attorney has been sentenced to jail time and probation for grand theft and practicing law while disbarred. Patrick Hammergren, pleaded no contest in August to stealing money from two clients and continuing legal work after he had been disbarred. One of the victims sent Hammergren a check for $5,000 as a retainer for his work in helping with custody issues with her grandchildren. When Hammergren did not do any of the promised work she requested the money back and he sent a check from a closed bank account. Hammergren paid restitution to the victims, and was sentenced to 30 days in jail and three years of probation.
