Construction of a Pensacola Fire Station had to be delayed recently when it was found that two gopher tortoises were living on the property. Gopher tortoises are a protected species in Florida. The work was put on hold in October after a burrow was found during a survey of the land.  The tortoises were moved Tuesday and will be relocated to Walton County.
