The Pensacola News Journal is reporting that former Escambia County School Board member Linda Moultrie, said she had to step down from the school board earlier this year to avoid losing her state retirement. Moultrie served as the District 3 school board member from 2008 until her resignation was announced in August of this year. In 2010, Florida passed regulations to prevent “double dipping.” The practice typically involves government or public service employees “retiring” from their position just long enough to request payouts from the Florida Retirement System, then returning to their old job and receiving a regular salary on top of a retirement check. Moultrie worked more than 20 years at the Sheriff’s Office, and 17 years in Escambia County’s Pre-trial Diversion department.
