A former Escambia High School football coach who was fired for playing ineligible athletes has had his teaching license suspended by the state. Willie Spears was terminated from the Escambia County School District in 2014 for “gross insubordination” after he started several players in the football season’s first game despite having been advised not to by administrators. the Education Practices Commission of Florida, has now fined him $6,600 and suspended his teaching license for a year. Spears is now head football coach at G.W. Carver in Montgomery, Alabama.
