A 49-year-old Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office detention deputy has been charged with theft of intellectual property. Russel Scott, was arrested yesterday by agents from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, charged with storing SMARTCOP proprietary files on his personal share drive located on the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office computer network. The SMARTCOP system provides implementation and support services for public safety officials. The FDLE said Scott, a former SMARTCOP employee, was not authorized to possess the files.
