An Air Force officer stationed at Eglin Air Force Base has been awarded the Air Force’s highest noncombat award for Airmen who distinguish themselves by a heroic act. First Lieutenant Dominic Vicino of the 20th Space Control Squadron was honored last week for risking his life to save three others at Miramar Beach in 2017. Lieutenant Vicino said he saw two people in distress in rough surf conditions in the Gulf, approximately 100 yards offshore. the 24-year-old weapons and tactics officer quickly entered the water and was able to reach the victims and carry them back to shore. He then entered the water a second time and rescued a lifeguard who was in distress.
