The Society for Historical Archaeology has presented archaeologists at the University of West Florida a major national award. The Daniel G. Roberts Award for Excellence in Public Historical Archaeology recognizes the university’s work on the Tristan de Luna settlement, which dates back to 1559. The project began decades ago and includes excavations on land as well as the study of shipwrecks in Pensacola Bay.
