It appears the University of Florida unnecessarily spent $302,000 in security costs during a white nationalist speaking event featuring Richard Spencer. Alachua County decided not to charge the University for the security costs, but the school apparently paid the entire amount accidentally. University spokesman Steve Orlando said the wire transfer was made after an “internal miscommunication” and university officials want the money back. Alachua County spokesman Mark Sexton said the county commission will be discussing what action to take.
