The Pensacola News Journal is reporting the Florida Department of Environmental Protection has announced it has canceled all bids from contractors for the proposed Bruce Beach hatchery. Dee Ann Miller, a spokeswoman for the department, said the decision was due to pending litigation regarding the state’s lease of Bruce Beach for the Hatchery. However, she said the cancellation will not prevent the department or Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission from moving ahead with the hatchery in the future. Pensacola residents, Dan Lindemann and Jerry Holzworth, had filed a lawsuit requesting the court declare the lease void because the lease was never valid and construction did not commence before the May 12, 2014 deadline.
