GREAT WHITE SHARK IN THE GULF

A young, female great white shark is being tracked as she travels   through the Gulf of Mexico. An international shark tracking organization has been following the 8-foot-6-inch, 460-pound immature female shark they named “Savannah” that was tagged last March in the Atlantic off Hilton Head, South Carolina. Since then Savannah has traveled more than 4,115 miles up and down the East Coast of the United States, going as far north as Nova Scotia, Canada, and as far south as Key West. She entered the Gulf on January 21st. The tracking system only works when the shark is close enough to the surface for the data to be transmitted to a satellite.
